THE ROLE
The Payroll Senior / Payroll Administrator will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll services for a portfolio of clients, ensuring payrolls are processed in line with current legislation, deadlines and client requirements. Working as part of an established payroll team, you will manage end‑to‑end payroll processing while maintaining strong relationships with clients, HMRC, colleagues and third‑party providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Processing end‑to‑end payrolls for a portfolio of clients across varying pay cycles
* Managing auto‑enrolment duties and BACS payments
* Ensuring payrolls are completed accurately, efficiently and within deadlines
* Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with clients
* Handling payroll‑related queries and providing a high standard of client service
* Carrying out manual payroll calculations where required
* Keeping up to date with payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and industry changes
* Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other third‑party organisations
* Working collaboratively with the wider payroll team and supporting shared service standards
* Proactively resolving payroll and client service issues
* Supporting continuous improvement across payroll processes and service delivery
* Undertaking any additional duties appropriate to the role
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* Previous payroll experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice, bureau or payroll services environment
* Strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments and auto‑enrolment regulations
* Experience processing multiple client payrolls
* Ability to manually calculate payroll
* Good working knowledge of payroll software
* Experience using BrightPay would be highly advantageous
* Strong Microsoft Office skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong organisational and time management ability
* A proactive, positive and client‑focused approach
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
