Our Brachytherapy Service is growing and a as a result we want to recruit a Team Leader who will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational aspects of the treatment suites and deputise for the Brachytherapy Lead Radiographer.

We need a confident, highly motivated, forward thinking, and passionate leader who cares about the service and staff development. Having undergone significant change in the past 12 months which saw us successfully introduce programmes of work aimed at supporting our Radiographers, as a Team Leader you too can expect 1:1 additional support from our Brachytherapy Lead and additional SMT with programmes aimed at developing you to achieve your career aspirations.

Our Brachytherapy Gynaecology service has expanded over the last year, incorporating new techniques including vaginal cap needles. The recent installation of the MRI scanner within the department has opened the opportunity to expand the service even further.

You will be joining a wider team of circa 115 staff who deliver one of the highest percentages of IG-IMRT treatments in the U.K and treats a large number of SABR patients for all commissioned indications. Our breast patients are treated with SGRT, & DIBH is offered to all appropriate patients who have left sided breast cancer.We are one of two leading centres delivering radiotherapy for paediatrics in the Midlands that specialises in SGRT, intensity-modulated TBI& CSRT.


Main duties of the job

You will be a highly experienced radiographer with brachytherapy experience, be used to managing a treatment unit, and leading a team of radiographers to provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy treatment.

You will manage the brachytherapy clinical workload ensuring that all treatments and procedures are delivered safely and correctly, maintaining high standards of technical and patient care. There is a requirement to work at an advanced level promoting best practice, giving expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team.

You will also work with the wider band 7 team on operational input into the department and staff related matters as well as providing Mentoring & Coaching to support the development of junior staff. In addition to the staff responsibilities within your area, you will also take direct responsibility for your staff 1:1's, appraisals and work programmes to support their development.

As Team leaders there is a requirement to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands and an essential requirement to be able to cover extended day working Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 8pm. In addition, there is a requirement to work occasional bank holidays and some occasional weekend working.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* *BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Therapeutic Radiography and/or experience to post-graduate diploma level
* or equivalent
* *Current HCPC registration Attendance of recent relevant post graduate courses and study days including assessment of undergraduates
* *Evidence of interest and commitment in working towards further professional development and qualification
* *Evidence of relevant MSc level study


Experience

* *Experience of working clinically within Brachytherapy at a senior radiographer grade with evidence of leading and organising a team of radiographers
* *Experience in assessing and teaching radiographers and trainee radiographers
* *Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally
* *Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
* *Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management
* *An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines
* *Possess a high level of knowledge and expertise of radiotherapy principles and treatment techniques as well as having excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
* *Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys
