Job overview

Trust Doctor (eqv to ST7+) in Aortovascular Endovascular

The Aor tic fellowship will be a 12 month programme where an individual will be involved in both research and clinical duties including the day to day management of aortic patients at St. Bartholomew’s Trust. This will include ward and ITU management, participation in theatre, outpatient department patient management and decision making/graft planning with the Aortic team. This will not include on-call or after hours duties. The aortic fellows will be expected to bring a working knowledge of advanced aortic techniques to be able to participate in advanced cases. Meaningful experience in complex endovascular repair is mandatory.

The aortic fellows will be involved in research with the aortic team, and will be expected to have at least one project that is submitted and presented at an international level, and results in a peer reviewed publication. The project will be based on topics involving care of the aortic patient, genetics of aortic disease, imaging aortic patients, or other topics that might be of interest to the fellow. This will be discussed prior to starting the post so that preparations can be made for the fellow to proceed with this research. Protected nonclinical time will be ensured. This will be organized as a block or one day per week depending on the arrangement with each fellow.

Main duties of the job

In designing this fellowship, we aim to attract individuals who have completed or are near completion of vascular or cardiac surgical/anaesthetic training. Ideally, they should be licenced to, or eligible to, practice medicine in the UK, but this designation can be pending at the time of starting the fellowship depending on the overall skillset of the applicant. The Surgical candidate should be able to demonstrate basic endovascular skills and ideally be have meaningful experience with advanced aortic endovascular techniques.
