Role Overview We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join a school in Taunton on a full-time, permanent basis from September. The successful candidate will work alongside class teachers to support learning, encourage positive behaviour, and help pupils access the curriculum in a safe, inclusive, and well-structured environment. This role would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a permanent post, a graduate or aspiring educator seeking school-based experience, or a compassionate professional who enjoys helping children build confidence, independence, and strong learning habits. Core Responsibilities Support pupils in lessons under the guidance of the class teacher, helping them remain engaged and make progress * Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning, develop confidence, and address gaps in understanding * Assist with classroom preparation, resources, and routines to help create an organised learning environment * Promote positive behaviour and support pupils in developing independence, resilience, and social skills * Provide additional support for pupils with SEND or specific learning needs where required * Help monitor pupil progress and share feedback with teaching staff to support planning and intervention * Supervise pupils during key points of the school day as directed by the school * Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment Required Skills & Behaviours Calm, patient, and supportive approach when working with children and young people * Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate * Strong communication skills and confidence supporting learning across the school day * Good awareness of behaviour support strategies and inclusive classroom practice * Reliable, organised, and proactive approach to day-to-day responsibilities * Commitment to safeguarding, teamwork, and helping pupils achieve their potential Qualifications & Experience Experience working with children or young people in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting is desirable * Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience is advantageous but not essential * Good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and professional boundaries * Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs would be beneficial * Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
