Job summary

We are offering up to a 12-month fixed-term position (maternity cover) within our expanding and developing Paediatric Audiology Service that adopts a 'whole child' approach to audiological care. We see children in community settings across Lancashire, and our Consultant Audiovestibular Physician is at the forefront of APD research. We are a small, friendly, yet busy multidisciplinary team committed to providing excellent, compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

You will assist in delivering a high-quality Paediatric Audiology Service, maintaining national standards for clinical and professional excellence. The post holder will perform a broad range of complex and non-routine tasks to assist in diagnosing and habilitating hearing and balance disorders in babies, children, and young adults. You will work with indirect supervision and use your initiative at all times.

To qualify, you need a BSc(Hons) or equivalent in Audiology, professional registration with an appropriate body (AHCS Registration), and be an organized team player who cares about high-quality service delivery, enjoys varied roles, communicates effectively, and has energy!

Job responsibilities

Assist the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior staff in tertiary evaluation of hearing disorders in young adults, children, and babies.

Conduct comprehensive hearing assessments on children and babies, including those with challenging behaviors, syndromes, developmental delays, learning or communication difficulties, and physical impairments, using investigative and analytical skills.

Perform assessments under indirect supervision for older children as part of the second-tier assessment service.

Help develop individualized (re)habilitative programs for hearing-impaired children and young adults, including those with challenging behaviors.

Assist in evaluating audiological treatment programs, making necessary adjustments, and reporting outcomes to a multidisciplinary team.

Perform Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) assessments, including questionnaire analysis, under indirect supervision.

Provide hearing aid technical support and repair services for all hearing-aided children.

Perform ear impressioning with direct or indirect supervision as required.

Assist with administrative tasks related to the Ear Mould Service and hearing aid service, including record-keeping, maintenance, and stock management.

Contribute to updating working practices and procedures in line with guidelines from NDCS, NHSP, and MCHAS.

Support the introduction of new audiological equipment, techniques, or practices, and assist with training.

Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, service users, and carers, providing information and resolving queries.

Maintain accurate electronic records of assessments and treatments, and communicate results appropriately.

Collect data and statistics as directed, participate in annual performance reviews, and undertake mandatory training.

Report feedback from service users and professionals to the Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.

Maintain AHCS registration.


Person Specification


Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge of professional audiological procedures relevant to a paediatric service
* Experience working in an NHS Audiology Department
* Experience programming NHS hearing aids
* Knowledge of Child Development
* Paediatric Audiology experience
* Interest in Research, Audit, or Project work


Qualifications and Education

* BSc(Hons) or equivalent
* Professional registration with an appropriate body (AHCS registration)
* Maintained and up-to-date CPD portfolio
