Haematology Operational Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Haematology Operational Manager role within the Haematology department at the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, flexible, forward‑thinking, driven individual to deliver a high‑quality, first‑class Haematology service to our users. The successful candidate will lead and support a strong Haematology senior team across all of the hospitals within the health board.
The ideal candidate must be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a relevant Biomedical Science Master’s degree or equivalent experience. You must have UK laboratory experience as a Senior Biomedical Scientist at band 7 level or above. The post holder will also be expected to have leadership and management qualifications or relevant experience.
The post holder will manage all aspects of the service, whilst leading the senior team and delivering a quality‑based, supportive, and dedicated Haematology service.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for managing the team to deliver the day‑to‑day operational management of the hospitals Haematology departments within the health board. You will work collaboratively with the Haematology Service Manager and other stakeholders including members of the blood transfusion team, CTM quality team, and other operational managers. You will be an integral member of the Haematology service, performing staff appraisals and other HR/workforce duties. You should therefore have good communication and interpersonal skills. This post will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital but there is an expectation to travel to, and provide cover at, other Cwm Taf Morgannwg laboratories depending on service needs. You will be committed to providing a high‑quality service to our patients and to training and quality, leadership, and development. You should understand ISO 15189:2022 accreditation.

This post is advertised as Welsh desirable. This is not essential; we will consider it an advantage when short‑listing. It requires speaking and listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Fluency is not required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* HCPC registered with evidence of ongoing CPD
* BSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science
* MSc or equivalent
* Management qualification
* Higher Specialist Diploma
* Fellowship of IBMS
* Quality Management qualification
Experience
* Significant post‑registration experience in haematology within the NHS
* Experience in a supervisory role at band 7 or above
* Experience with basic office IT programmes (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets)
* Experience of quality management procedures
* Experience of procurement projects or other project management
Other
* Will be required to work across the organisation, so must be able to travel between sites in a timely manner when required
