Role: Chargehand Location: Merthyr Hours: 45 hours per week | Monday–Friday | Days only Salary: Up to £48,300 per annum (DOE) Are you ready to take charge? We’re recruiting an experienced Chargehand to lead workshop operations within a busy service environment. This is a hands-on supervisory role, responsible for overseeing personnel, equipment, and workflow while ensuring compliance with roadworthiness and health & safety standards. The Role * Manage and support workshop personnel, ensuring effective planning and efficient workflow * Act as a key point of contact for internal and external customers * Prepare quotes and provide progress updates throughout the job lifecycle * Plan, oversee, and sign off work, ensuring accurate documentation and real-time invoicing * Inspect, repair, and maintain vehicles and specialist equipment in line with DVSA and roadworthiness requirements * Maintain high standards of compliance, housekeeping, and workshop safety * Promote a strong and positive Health & Safety culture at all times What We’re Looking For * Proven experience in maintenance and repair within a workshop environment (RCVs or similar advantageous) * Strong background in both body and chassis work * Level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification (or equivalent) and a current PLG licence * Confident diagnostic skills, including the ability to interpret wiring diagrams * Good working knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, and workshop documentation * Customer-focused, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision * Flexible to travel occasionally and work overtime when required
