Here is that perfect opportunity you have been looking for! Become part of a great team in Oxford at an exciting time, as we continue to transform our Ophthalmology services. We would like an experienced ophthalmic nurse to join us as we continue our journey to deliver the best care, by the best people in the best way possible.
We are a welcoming department with a great nursing team working harmoniously with each other and the rest of the Oxford Ophthalmology clinical and non‑clinical staff groups.
To be our chosen applicant you must be an exceptional nurse who has leadership experience at band 5 or above, as well as sound knowledge and skills for the care of patients with eye conditions. You will also be an outstanding role model delivering a high standard of care whilst supporting more junior staff and contributing to service development.
We would like you to have an ophthalmology‑specific post‑registration qualification or be working towards this.
Responsibilities
* Eye Emergency Care (including telephone triage)
* Pre‑operative assessment
* Nurse‑led outpatient clinical activity
* Lead and support junior staff and students
* Work collaboratively with all members of the Ophthalmic Multidisciplinary Team
* Contribute to service improvement in the specialty
In Ophthalmology, we are completely devoted to the development and education of our staff and have invested significant time and energy into providing a number of specialist nurse roles, including a Level 7 Post‑Graduate Certificate in Advanced Patient‑Centred Ophthalmology Care, in collaboration with and validated by Northampton University.
The Oxford Eye Hospital is a busy outpatient department treating over 106,000 patients a year in the full range of ophthalmology clinics, including an emergency department and pre‑operative assessment. Our team is made up of over 45 members of staff, including specialist nurses, nursing assistants, band 4 assistant practitioners, nursing associates, ECLOs and a department house keeper. You will be supported by the Clinical Unit Manager and be encouraged to continue your professional development as an Ophthalmic Nurse and as a leader. In addition, we are planning on having more nurses undertaking intravitreal injections.
We will consider applicants looking for part‑time hours; most staff work compressed hours (longer but fewer days per week) but we are happy to discuss other options for flexible working.
