The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer to support outcomes in the Planning Development Service, with emphasis on maintaining compliance with planning permissions, lawful uses and regulations and provide excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities: Manage complex and contentious planning enforcement cases, acting as the single customer contact. Lead all aspects of planning enforcement appeals, including preparing and presenting the Council’s case. Attend court as required for enforcement-related matters. Provide technical oversight and guidance on planning enforcement to advisors and caseworkers. Deliver specialist, customer-focused advice and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policy and best practice. Work collaboratively across teams, members, partners and key stakeholders. Maintain accurate records and update information systems in line with Data Protection requirements. Handle customer enquiries and contribute specialist input to corporate or community project teams. What the client is looking for: A relevant qualification in Town Planning, Law, Environmental Health or another related discipline (e.g. degree, HNC/HND) – or equivalent professional experience. Membership of, or working towards membership of, the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional body is desirable. Proven experience in planning enforcement or a closely related planning, regulatory or compliance role. Sound knowledge of planning legislation, enforcement processes, appeals procedures and relevant case law. Experience managing complex or contentious cases and presenting evidence at hearings, inquiries or court. Ability to prepare high-quality written reports, statements and correspondence for enforcement and appeal work. Strong communication skills, with confidence in engaging with customers, stakeholders, councillors and partners. Experience providing technical guidance or support to colleagues or service teams.
