We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Major Trauma Nurse Co-ordinator to join our multidisciplinary trauma team. This is a new role within the organisation and will be pivotal in ensuring safe, effective, and timely care for major trauma patients.
The successful candidate will work across the entire pathway from initial presentation through rehabilitation to discharge. Acting as a key nurse within the major trauma pathway.
You will closely with the Senior Major trauma rehabilitation co-ordinator and the clinical teams, trauma networks and external agencies. The team are known for their welcoming nature, and determination to improve patient care for major trauma injuries.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant must be a qualified nurse with experience working within major trauma. Evidence of postgraduate study and attendance of relevant trauma courses is required. We will offer the opportunity for further CPD within the role.
Applicants must have the ability to work well as a part of the multidisciplinary team as well as individually and be able to adapt to frequently changing situations.We are GOLD accredited trauma unit, and work within the wider scope of the Wessex trauma network. The fast paced and unpredictable nature of trauma nursing, in turn with its success in achieving good patient outcomes in a friendly, supportive ward environment are positives which we celebrate as a team.
The role will be across the organisation- ED, ICU and the wards. You will be required to work autonomously and have a commitment to education. Leading on Trauma teaching to nursing staff and the MDT across the organisation.
The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an ability to provide high quality, safe nursing care which is driven by patient experience and evidence-based best practice. An interest in research and a commitment to clinical governance to best improve patient care and optimise service delivery.

Education, Qualification & Training
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
* Non-Medical Prescriber qualification
* Evidence of Post graduate trauma studies at master’s level or equivalent
* Evidence of completing an advanced communication skills course
* Commitment to ongoing professional development, with evidence of relevant courses or certifications (e.g., Trauma Nursing Core Course, Advanced Life Support).
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post-registration experience in acute care settings, such as Emergency Department, Critical Care, or Trauma.
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working and care coordination.
* Knowledge of national trauma standards and pathways, including Major Trauma Centre and Trauma Network requirements.
* Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate across services.
* Knowledge of rehabilitation services and community care pathways for trauma patients.
* Familiarity with trauma registry systems and performance benchmarking.
Skills & Abilities

* Willingness to progress the Service.
* Good time management skills to prioritise workload.
* Work as a member of a team, and independently within scope of practise.
* Competence in audit, data collection, and quality improvement processes.
* IT literacy, including proficiency in electronic patient record systems and Microsoft Office applications.
* Teaching and mentoring experience, including delivering education sessions to clinical staff
* Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
* Participation in research or audit projects related to trauma care.
