Job Title: Head Chef

Location: Banrt Green Priory Hospital

Reports To: Head of Facilities Manager

Hours: Full-Time, including weekends and holidays (365-day operation)


Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and empathetic Head Chef to manage our kitchen and staff at Barnt Green Priory Hospital. The successful candidate will oversee daily food service, ensuring nutritious, high-quality meals that meet dietary and therapeutic needs, maintaining a safe, efficient, and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities

1. Kitchen Leadership & Management:
* Inspire, guide, and oversee the kitchen team to uphold morale and performance.
* Maintain sufficient staffing levels, considering holidays and sick leave.
* Provide training, supervision, and performance reviews for kitchen staff.
* Conduct daily checks across the site and log them in our system.
1. Menu Planning & Food Preparation:
* Manage nutritious menus aligned with dietary needs and mental health standards.
* Ensure meals meet quality, hygiene, and presentation standards.
* Accommodate dietary needs, including allergies, cultural preferences, and therapeutic diets.
2. Stock & Budget Control:
* Monitor inventory and manage food orders, maintaining cost-effective practices.
* Minimize food waste through efficient planning and stock rotation.
3. Health, Safety & Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and environmental standards.
* Maintain kitchen cleanliness and staff adherence to protocols.
* Stay informed about regulatory requirements and best practices.
4. Collaboration & Communication:
* Work closely with healthcare staff to meet patients' dietary and therapeutic needs.
* Maintain open communication with management regarding dietary plans and kitchen performance.


Essential Skills & Qualifications

* Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef, preferably in healthcare.
* NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent).
* Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 3 (minimum).
* Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
* Empathetic and adaptable to a mental health care environment.
* Knowledge of nutritional standards.
* Experience managing catering services year-round.
* Budgeting and stock management experience.


Additional Information

Priory Hospital Barnt Green is located in Lickey Hills Country Park, 10 miles south of Birmingham. The hospital has 33 beds across three wards, including psychiatric intensive care, acute services, and private wards for men and women.

Services include inpatient, outpatient, daycare, and regional conference facilities, with expanding pathways in ADHD, Autism, and CAMHS, making this an exciting opportunity to join our Therapy Team.

We support a diverse range of clients through referral systems involving Consultant Psychiatrists and PMI Companies.
