Sixways Clinic is a friendly, forward thinking surgery. We are looking for an experienced phlebotomist to work within our friendly and supportive nursing team.

The role is for up to 16 hours per week.We would prefer a candidate who is available to work these hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or on Monday mornings (due to room availability).


Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection, ensuring accurate labeling, handling, and processing of specimens.

Support the nursing team by assisting with annual health reviews and performing a variety of clinical tasks within the surgery.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness and adhere to infection control protocols at all times.

Provide excellent patient care and reassurance during procedures, ensuring a positive experience.

Signpost patients to appropriate lifestyle advice and health services as needed.

Ensure accurate and timely documentation and data entry in patient records.


About us

Sixways clinic is a well established GP practice. You will become a key part of the team, consisting of 8 GP's (of which 6 are partners), 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA and 1 Phlebotomist.We have a light and airy nursing area, with dedicated treatment rooms. We are very committed to staff work life balanceand are part of a strong Primary Care Network. We are focussed at delivering high quality general medical services to our 11,000 registered patients.


Job responsibilities

Job Description: Healthcare Assistant Phlebotomy & Patient Care

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensure patients are comfortable, relaxed, and fully consent to the collection of blood samples.

Collect blood samples in accordance with established protocols and training.

Store samples in appropriate containers and ensure timely dispatch to designated laboratories.

Label all samples accurately and legibly to confirm patient identity.

Verify patient identity against GP/Nurse requests and confirm with the patient when possible.

Record the collection of blood samples in patient records, following practice procedures.

Report any anomalies or issues to a senior member of staff.

Notify the GP/Nurse of any significant patient concerns or observations.

Clinical Support Duties:

Conduct routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature checks.

Perform urinalysis and document results accurately.

Conduct NHS health checks and contribute to QOF reviews using Ardens templates.

Offer lifestyle advice on topics such as smoking cessation, weight management, and general health improvement.

Deliver delegated care activities to named patients, as taught and agreed upon by clinical staff.

Assist in the ongoing assessment, monitoring, and surveillance of patient health and well-being.

Equipment and Environment Management:

Check clinical rooms regularly to ensure all equipment and supplies are in date and adequately stocked.

Maintain and prepare clinical environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care.

Monitor and record fridge temperatures; report anomalies to the nursing team promptly.

Check and replace sharps bins when full, ensuring they are sealed, labelled, and transferred to clinical waste as required.

Administrative and Support Responsibilities:

Order and maintain adequate phlebotomy supplies to ensure continuous service provision.

Support the administrative team by handling phlebotomy-related queries.

Liaise effectively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to support seamless patient care.

Assist with the collection and collation of data related to health and well-being needs.

Health Promotion:

Encourage and support patients in improving their health and lifestyle through education and referral to appropriate services.

Help raise awareness of health promotion within the practice and the wider community.

The post holder will be required to:

* Work in accordance with practice guidelines to assist the clinical team
* Maintaining confidentiality and check patient identification
* Liaise with clinicians with any concerns


Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Qualification in phlebotomy or relevant experience


Experience

* Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care;
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes;
* Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
* Experience of using SystmOne software

* Ability to communicate effectively and to understand the needs of the patient
* Flexibility and an adaptable approach
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
* Ability to work as part of a team
