An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative, hardworking and dynamic Band 5 Registered Nurse to work within the established Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward. If you are newly qualified or an experienced Staff Nurse with an interest in developing skills and knowledge in trauma and orthopaedic nursing we would love to hear from you.
Integrated within the level 2 Trauma Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, functioning as part of the Thames Valley Trauma Network, our 22-bedded acute ward that specialises in trauma and orthopaedics. Our vision is to be a centre of excellence and we would like you to help us realise our dream.
Main duties of the job
1. Supervises the work of the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated accordingly to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
2. Undertakes the assessment of patients including risk assessments e.g Waterlow and falls assessments
3. Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
4. Ensures plans of care are implemented and updated as appropriate.
5. Takes all measures to ensure the safety of the patient - reporting all accidents and incidents and completing relevant documentation. Take appropriate action when necessary.
6. Ability to plan a duty rota, identifying shortfalls in staffing (e.g. sickness). Is responsible for beginning the process to find replacement staff or the reorganization of the rota. Ensures best use is made of available manpower.
7. Identifies hazards or breach of guidelines and acts accordingly. Updates knowledge in response to Circulars and Hazard Warnings. Communicates knowledge and information
to other members of ward staff.
8. Helps maintain safe working conditions on the ward/department.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
19. Good general education
20. Registered Nurse (General)
Desirable criteria
21. Evidence of further continued professional development
22. First Line Management Course
23. ENB 998 or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
24. Ability to work within a team and independently
25. Ability to resolve conflict and disputes, in a non confrontational manner
Desirable criteria
26. Previous experience as shift/team leader
27. Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
Essential criteria
28. Good communication skills: written and verbal
29. Competency in IV drug administration.
