Strategic Design and Transition Programme - Strategy Policy Specialist

We’re looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to be part of the Strategic Design and Transition Programme. The role focuses on translating the Independent Water Commission’s report recommendations into future shape and design for the EA, safeguarding the environment while supporting sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based advice on future thinking in light of the IWC report, particularly the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across government, within the EA, and other regulators to synchronize thinking.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking in a fast‑moving environment.
* Show flexibility by assisting other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Actively contribute to a high‑performing, agile, resilient team, supporting the programme team’s culture of excellence.
Experience and Skills
* Experience developing policy at central government, working with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and the ability to act on it.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to translate complex issues into simple, targeted advice on short notice.
* Proven ability to work across boundaries and influence at all levels.
Contact and Additional Information
Location: EA Office base (national role – flexible working location). Some travel, including occasional overnight stays. Smart tools are used to minimise travel. The role is up to 12 months.
