Job Title: Archive Researcher/Producer - Climate Location: London (Hybrid) Contract Type: Short-term/Freelance (with start w/c 13th October) Location: London (Hybrid or Remote, depending on project needs) Summary: We are seeking an experienced and well-connected Media Archive Researcher/Producer to join the team on a climate-focused short film. This role is central to sourcing, clearing, and managing archive content-particularly news footage, speeches, and event coverage-that is critical to the film's narrative. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of rights and licensing, and established relationships with major archive suppliers and media libraries. Key Responsibilities: Source archive materials from major suppliers (e.g. Getty, AP, Reuters, ITN, BBC etc.) and specialist collections Identify and secure relevant news clips, speeches, and event footage related to climate, policy, and innovation Liaise with rights holders to negotiate usage terms, fees, and clearances Assess and document rights status of all materials, including third-party content and orphan works Maintain detailed records of licensing agreements, restrictions, and metadata Work closely with editorial to identify archive that enhances the film's storytelling and visual tone Track archive spend and ensure all materials are cleared within budget Deliver archive assets to post-production in required formats and resolutions Ensure compliance with copyright law, fair dealing/fair use, and project-specific legal requirements Flag any legal or ethical concerns around archive usage early in the process Essential Skills & Experience: Proven experience in archive research and rights clearance for film, TV, or digital content Strong understanding of copyright, licensing, and intellectual property law Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs archive sources Established relationships with major archive suppliers and media libraries Excellent research and negotiation skills Meticulous attention to detail and record-keeping Ability to interpret and communicate rights terms clearly to editorial and legal teams Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple archive requests simultaneously Familiarity with archive databases, licensing platforms, and media asset management systems Desirable: Experience working on climate, environmental, or policy-related content Knowledge of international archive sources and clearance procedures Basic editing skills (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro) Familiarity with metadata standards and digital archiving best practice About RE:TV & Atomized Studios RE:TV was launched at the World Economic Forum in 2020 by His Majesty King Charles III (then HRH The Prince of Wales), in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
