Assistant Finance Business Partner

Join a respected public service organisation as an Assistant Finance Business Partner within our Finance Team, part of the Resources Directorate. This role is crucial in supporting our long-term vision and purpose to make communities safer through proactive, customer-focussed financial management.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
* Financial Planning and Analysis: Support the Finance Business Partner in the annual budget planning process, including budget and costing analysis, preparation, and upload to the general ledger.
* Financial Management: Perform month-end and year-end financial management accounting activities, including budget reconciliations, accruals accounting, forecasts, and preparation of reports.
* Statutory Compliance: Lead on compiling and submitting statutory returns and grant claims within prescribed timelines.
* Financial Reporting: Provide accurate and timely information on budget variances and movements to support budget management and decision-making.
* Risk Management: Assist in maintaining financial ledgers and securing appropriate insurance cover, processing claims, and identifying improvements to manage risks effectively.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate financial information persuasively to non-financial colleagues and provide support in developing business case proposals.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Knowledge: Strong understanding of local authority accounting, financial management, risk management, and insurance. Proficient in budget monitoring, forecasting, and the financial accounts closure process.
* Qualifications: GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English is essential. AAT Qualified or equivalent is essential. Professional accountancy qualification (CCAB) is desirable.
* Experience: Experience in collaborative work with stakeholders to provide strategic financial advice. Familiarity with financial cycle requirements and statutory compliance is preferred.
* Skills: Excellent IT skills across MS Office applications. Strong communication skills and the ability to organise a busy work schedule effectively.
