The Mary Rose Museum is large independent museum with an outstanding designated collection. The purpose-built, award-winning Museum displays the hull of Henry VIII's warship Mary Rose alongside some of the 19,000 artefacts recovered.

Hours: 37 hours (07.00– 15.30/15.00 on Friday) + on call one week in every four
Purpose of Role
To provide a high standard of building maintenance at the Mary Rose Museum, conservation facility and offices, to ensure a first class and safe working and visiting environment for staff and the public.
Key Duties
· Contribute to maintenance of the pristine appearance of the museum.
· Identification of visitor damage, and carrying out timely rectification action, liaising with Front of House staff where necessary.
· Routine inspection to identify the need for repairs/maintenance of doors, door stops, handles, locking devices, floor tiles and general building fixtures and fittings, to re-establish full functionality.
· Responsible for meeting an agreed work programme for building maintenance, construction, repairs and general caretaking work.
· First point of contact for the museum on-site cleaners.
· Carrying out monthly inspection of the museum entrance pavilion and roofs, clearing standing water and ensuring that gutters are clear of debris, as necessary.
· Ensure a stock of general building material supplies to enable prompt response to minor building repair/refurbishment requirements.
· Carrying out miscellaneous support tasks on behalf of the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, in support of conservation activities and new museum displays, programmes or events.
· Assist Maintenance team with the ongoing maintenance of environmental control systems, where necessary.
· Ensure that the necessary RAMS and H&S documentation and measures are always in place, to ensure a safe working environment. Keep all works areas in a safe and good order.
· Be aware of matters of security and evacuation procedures.
· Participate in ensuring that good relations are established within the Maintenance team and across other departments in the MRT.
· Be part of an out of hours on call rota (every 1 in 4 weeks), which includes attending site each weekend morning to do visual check of museum.
· Any duties reasonably required within the Trust, as directed by the Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
Person Specification
· Previous experience in building maintenance
· Experience and confidence in working with range of equipment e.g. hand and bench tools
· Happy to be part of a team, including working with teams outside their immediate department
· Flexible
· Self-motivated
· Methodical and takes pride in their work
· Good communicator
· Basic IT skills for documentation purposes and communication
· Clean UK driving license
Note: This role is subject to an enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service check and Naval Base Security Clearance. Due to the nature of our location, it is a Ministry of Defence mandatory requirement in the interest of Dockyard security that anyone working with Portsmouth Naval Base must either be a UK resident or have had continuous residency in the UK for at least three years to be eligible to apply for a permanent site security pass.
