About the role
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced and ambitious transport professional with a passion for improving the sustainability of our urban areas. They will have a track record of delivering schemes in London involving behaviour change, engagement and consultation, and active travel design. They will be able to independently lead on active travel projects spanning local cycling and walking plans and public engagement/consultation, contributing to the company’s reputation for delivering excellence.
As a senior figure within our team, they will be confident in taking charge of developing new business opportunities for our active travel practice, as well as building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the public sector, in particular the London boroughs and Transport for London. They will also be confident in helping to guide and develop our young, passionate and talented team.

Compensation
Steer is committed to ensuring that all its employees are compensated a fairly and at a competitive rate. All initial compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, and internal equity are taken into account.
In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward.
Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.
Requirements
To be successful in the role, the candidate will:
1. Be comfortable working in creative multi-disciplinary teams and provide positive contributions in resolving complex design problems. This involves a good working knowledge of best practice (such as LTN 1/20) in regard to active travel
2. Be able to generate work within the active travel market that helps us to sustain a strong pipeline of work across all levels of seniority
3. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the public sector, in particular the London boroughs and Transport for London
4. Be able to independently lead on bids and financial proposals for new and existing clients
5. Take responsibility managing multiple deadlines in parallel across a portfolio of projects. This will involve managing some projects which are high profile and contentious.
6. Demonstrate exemplary written and oral communication skills
7. Be able to manage and lead multidisciplinary teams located from offices across the UK (and potentially internationally)
8. Be continually keeping up to date with developments in the transport industry, including policy and best practice
9. Represent the company at industry events and conferences, speaking about the work delivered by Steer
10. Have a Professional (TPP or CHIT) or academic qualifications in a relevant subject (desired but not essential)
11. Must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
