We are looking for two consultants in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine to join the Critical Care and theatre teams at an exciting time for Hampshire Hospitals Critical Care as we embark on a period of expansion of our rapidly growing service.
We welcome applicants on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine & Anaesthetics. Applicants with equivalent training as evidenced by possession of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) are also encouraged to apply.
Our critical care facilities include an 18 bed Critical Care Unit at Basingstoke and a 9 bed unit at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
These posts are substantive with the principle base for the posts being on the Basingstoke site, with a specific aim to expand our tertiary elective major surgical program. Activity includes on-call activity in Critical Care on a 1:8 frequency, but with potential for activity in Winchester by mutual agreement.
The posts are offered on a 10 PA contract. Critical Care will incorporate at least 4 PA (including on call). Anaesthetic work will constitute the remaining PA to make up 8.5 DCC PA’s in a contract totalling 10 PAs. There is potential for more work in critical care or anaesthetics up to total 12PA on negotiation. SPA allowance starts at 1.5PA, but we encourage individuals to develop roles and opportunities outside the department, some of which may be recognised in extra SPA time. Like all appointments to the Trust, successful candidates may be required to work at any of the hospital sites if the clinical service requires this.
Role-specific duties:
Provide a safe, effective, responsive, and caring anaesthetic and Critical Care service to a level expected by a Consultant.
Agree a job plan with the Clinical Directors in Critical Care and Anaesthetics and work flexibly as far as is possible to accommodate the needs of the Department.
Participate actively in clinical governance, including reporting of incidents, investigation of serious incidents and any complaints.
Show a determination to meet or exceed the standards of the National Patients’ Rights Charter.
To be familiar with the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ and College of Intensive Care Medicine curriculum for Junior Doctor Training and contribute to their training requirements, including tutorials and educational supervision where required.
Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.
We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.
The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
