Offer description

This is an exciting opportunity to shape how communities in the North‑West of Cambridge stay active, healthy and connected. You’ll lead the development and delivery of inclusive Active Lifestyles services that support wellbeing across all ages, with a particular focus on children and young people. A key part of the role is activating new open spacesand facilities created through local housing growth, ensuring they become vibrant, welcoming and well‑used community assets.

What’s in it for you

* A role with purpose— you’ll be directly improving health, wellbeing and inclusion for children, young people, families and adults across a diverse and growing community.
* A chance to shape something new— you’ll activate brand‑new green spaces, facilities and community buildings, helping define how they’re used and enjoyed for years to come.
* Variety and autonomy— no two days will look the same. You’ll balance insight gathering, programme design, partnership building, community engagement and hands‑on delivery.
* Strong professional development— you’ll gain experience across programme development, evaluation, funding, digital communications and partnership working.
* A collaborative environment— you’ll work with passionate colleagues across sport, health, education and the voluntary sector, with the freedom to bring your ideas to life.

What you’ll be doing

Your work will centre on understanding local needs, designing inclusive activities and ensuring new community spaces become vibrant, welcoming and well‑used.

* Understanding local needs by researching the health, wellbeing and physical activity patterns of residents in the North‑West neighbourhood, including children and young people, and using this insight to shape provision.
* Developing and supporting activity programmes that increase participation across all ages, champion community‑led initiatives and ensure services are high quality, sustainable and delivered within budget.
* Activating new open spaces and facilities created through housing growth, ensuring they are safe, accessible and welcoming for families, young people and adults.
* Building strong partnerships with Council teams, neighbouring authorities, schools, health providers, sports organisations and community groups to co‑create opportunities that reduce inequalities.
* Engaging directly with communities experiencing social, economic or health inequalities, supporting resident involvement and co‑developing local solutions.
* Securing external funding by identifying opportunities and preparing bids to enhance provision for priority groups.
* Monitoring and evaluating impact through robust data collection, participant feedback and reporting to inform future delivery.
* Promoting Active Lifestyles services through events, forums and digital content that reaches diverse audiences.
* Ensuring safe and effective operations, including supervising casual staff, coaches and volunteers, and maintaining compliance with safeguarding, health and safety and other statutory requirements.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring a community‑minded, proactive approach and the confidence to work with a wide range of people, using insight to shape meaningful, inclusive opportunities for residents to get active. With a strong understanding of physical activity, health inequalities and the barriers people face in taking part, you’ll be able to build trusted relationships across diverse communities and translate local needs into practical action.
