Direct clinical care includes all clinical and associated direct activity, e.g. pre- and post-operative care and communication. It is accepted that the content of different consultants job plans will vary, but parity will be maintained by ensuring a balanced job plan for each consultant. The actual content of programmed activities will be monitored periodically by use of a work diary at job plan review.
On call Duties and scheduled emergency work at weekends.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for continuing clinical cover with consultant colleagues. Remuneration is by salary supplement (medium frequency, category A) with Programmed Activities allocated in the job plan to reflect the number of participating Consultants and the average hours of work including both predictable and unpredictable duties is subject to periodic review. When on call, the Duty Consultant will take an active role in the direction of the emergency team. Attendance on-site is required at times of peak activity: evenings and weekend daytime, it expected that an onsite handover will take place from the night team at 8.00am followed by a Duty Consultant morning ward round at 8.30am on the ICU at weekends.
