A vacancy at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Join our team at the Ipswich base within ESNEFT infection service. This is a full‑time substantive post suitable for a candidate on the specialist register with a qualification in Medical Microbiology, or a consultant dual‑accredited in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, or a Consultant Clinical Scientist who has completed a training programme in Medical Microbiology.
Our Enhanced Welcome package includes an additional £20,000 lump sum plus 1.5 SPA time for 12 months and relocation costs to thank you for choosing to work at our trust.
Key Responsibilities
 * Lead the management, provision and development of Microbiology and Infection Control Services for the department.
 * Undertake laboratory work, including diagnostic sample advice, validation, interpretation of results and participation in policy development.
 * Participate in the diagnosis and management of individual patients by liaison with patients, clinicians and other hospital and community staff.
 * Engage in business planning, introduce new methods and plan forward for staff and equipment.
 * Regularly and systematically review all departmental policies, SOPs and protocols in line with Trust policy on document control and risk management.
 * Maintain effective communication and engagement with clinical colleagues and other service users, including consultants in communicable disease control and health protection.
 * Advise on Infection control issues in conjunction with microbiology and infection control nursing colleagues.
 * Work with colleagues to deliver the clinical governance agenda, including accreditation through UKAS.
 * Participate in clinical and laboratory audit and maintain a recognised programme of Continuing Professional Development.
 * Teach medical undergraduates and other groups of healthcare staff.
 * Appraise and plan job performance in accordance with Trust policy.
 * Contribute to setting and achieving directorate strategic goals and performance targets.
Qualifications
 * FRCPath(UK) or equivalent and full GMC registration.
 * Inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Medical Microbiology or Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, within six months of CCT or its equivalent at interview.
 * For Consultant Clinical Scientists: completion of a recognised Higher Speciality Scientific Training programme (HSST) in Medical Microbiology and the FRCPath(UK) examinations for infection training.

Remotely
Consultants not required to be on‑site for clinical duties may work remotely, and some parts of the Ipswich site clinical service may be provided remotely as part of rotation.
Part‑Time Option
If a person is unable to work full‑time, a part‑time contract may be considered on a personal basis with the department, with the requirement to devote substantially all professional time to the duties of the post.
