Role Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-driven Compliance & Sustainability Coordinator to lead and support our environmental, technical and ethical compliance efforts. This is a key role in ensuring our operations meet UK Timber Regulations (UKTR), FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody standards, and broader sustainability and environmental frameworks. The successful candidate will play an active part in defining responsible sourcing and enhancing the environmental and technical performance of our product range. This role also offers the opportunity to become a key figure in contributing to the growth and development of the Hanson Environmental & Technical (HEAT) team, an integral function at the heart of our sustainability journey and promotional strategy. Key Responsibilities Responsible Sourcing Maintain the company due diligence system in line with the UK Timber Regulations (UKTR), mapping supply chains and conducting risk assessments to ascertain and verify legal and sustainable timber sourcing practices. Manage FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody systems, including audits, training, and documentation. Maintain and improve internal policies and procedures related to environmental compliance. Engage with the wider trade to work on industry-level risk and collaborate on best practices. Assist the company in preparing for the implementation of the new EU Deforestation Regulation and impact to customers. Environmental & Technical Support Manage the HEAT team mailbox, handling incoming environmental and technical queries for a varied customer base. Support and collaborate with the Sales team and Product Group Management teams on sourcing decisions, technical requirements and compliance requests from customers. Social & Ethical Compliance Ensure compliance with the UK Modern Slavery Act, including supplier due diligence and annual statement support. Promote adherence to ILO Core Labour Standards (e.g. no forced labour, child labour, or discrimination). Support ethical sourcing and fair labour practices across the supply chain. Raise awareness and provide training on social compliance and ethical responsibilities. Opportunities for Growth HEAT Team Management: potential to eventually manage and develop the HEAT team, with responsibility over future initiatives and development of Hanson Plywood. Sustainability & Carbon Reduction: opportunity to support the development and implementation of carbon reduction strategies aligned with Net Zero goals. Quality & Continuous Improvement: option to work alongside the Quality team to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management) standards. Product Performance, Lifecycle and Circularity: scope to support initiatives that promote product lifecycle awareness, recyclability, and circular economy principles. Key Skills Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation in managing responsibilities, while remaining collaborative and team oriented. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent organisational and documentation skills, with a keen eye for detail. Analytical and proactive approach to problem-solving. Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills. Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to manage change and evolving processes. Consistently presents a professional manner in appearance, language, and behaviour. The following attributes are desirable but not essential: Experience in compliance, sustainability or environmental management ideally within the timber or construction materials sector. Familiarity with UKTR, FSC® and PEFC regulations and standards. Experience with sustainability data collection and reporting tools.
