Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm
The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of R&D, the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for leading product development activities from initial concept through to production validation and manufacturing launch. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams including R&D, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, operations, and commercial functions to deliver high-quality, compliant medical devices.
You will play a key role in clearly communicating design intent, technical decisions, and project progress, ensuring alignment and stakeholder engagement throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage product development projects from concept to manufacture and launch
Drive concept generation, system architecture, and detailed design development
Produce accurate CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings using SolidWorks
Oversee prototyping, testing, verification, and validation activities
Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure efficient and scalable manufacturing
Work within a regulated medical device development framework (ISO 13485)
Support risk management activities, design documentation, and technical files
Collaborate with operational and commercial teams to align design decisions with manufacturing, supply chain, and market requirements
Prepare and deliver technical presentations to communicate progress, recommendations, and design intent
Liaise with external suppliers, manufacturers, and test houses
Manage project timelines, priorities, and stakeholders across multiple programmes
Skills and Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a product development or design engineering role
Background in medical devices, regulated products, or high-performance consumer technology is highly desirable
Demonstrated experience owning and delivering complex development programmes
Strong project management capability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to internal stakeholders
Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is desirable
Solid understanding of plastics, sheet metal, mechanical assemblies, and electromechanical systems
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused
Proactive and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines
