Background: Gas Street is a dynamic and diverse church based right in the heart of the city of Birmingham. We are a church that wants to be light in our city & beyond, wanting to show God’s love in a tangible way across Birmingham. Gas Street Longbridge launched in February 2024. This is our fourth location in an area packed with opportunity and potential, with several local schools in the area and 100s of new homes being built. Our hope is that we can play our part and see a community transformed. This role will operate as part of the Gas Street staff team and, as well as attending meetings at the Gas Street Central location, will be based primarily at the Longbridge location. Key objectives: The Youth Pastor (GS Longbridge) will be responsible for growing a youth ministry for young people aged 11-18 at Gas Street Longbridge. They will work in line with the vision of GS Youth and the wider vision and values of Gas Street Church. They will pastorally care for young people who attend Gas Street Longbridge. They will be responsible for recruiting, envisioning and raising a team of capable, passionate, committed volunteers and leaders. They will work alongside the Lead Youth Pastor to oversee the content and delivery of a weekly programme. Key areas of responsibility: Ensure pastoral care of young people aged 11-18 at GS Longbridge To reach and engage young people in the community, establishing relationships with them and creating a space for them to connect regularly mid-week Establish and lead a Sunday programme for Youth at GS Longbridge to help them explore, thrive and flourish in their faith Recruit, train, equip and lead the team of volunteers; empowering them to use their strengths and gifts to outwork the vision for GS Youth. To organise and lead social events that will create environments for young people to invite friends, have fun, build relationships and make memories Champion young people within the church; ensuring their voice is heard and their input valued, and encouraging and facilitating opportunities for them to take on leadership and ministry responsibilities within our church and services Connect with and involve young people from the local community in church life Alongside the Location Pastor & Kids Pastor (GS Longbridge), help foster a culture of intergenerational worship and connection To assist in the leading of an annual weekend away for all young people connected to Gas Street Church Undertake administrative tasks including maintaining appropriate records and volunteer rotas, undertaking risk assessments and ensuring health and safety, and safeguarding compliance To assist in hosting and leading team meetings, imparting a clear vision Communicate effectively and regularly with parents and carers Other general support to the Gas Street Team as needed Person Specification: A heart and passion for the worship of Jesus Christ A deep passion and desire to see young people grow spiritually in the love and worship of Jesus and in their love for one another and their community Someone who can demonstrate the exercising of spiritual gifts Ability to engage and inspire young people, build trust and gain respect An ability and willingness to pioneer Exceptional leadership and management skills Strong interpersonal and organisational skills Experience of Youth work in a church setting Proactive and self-motivated Excellent administrative skills Be flexible and innovative, able to adapt to changing circumstances and to develop new ways of working Ability to juggle a broad range of responsibilities An open heart and a ‘can do’ attitude Good time management skills with proven ability to prioritise workload A personal walk with Jesus underpinning a lifestyle of integrity There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practising Christian This role will require an enhanced DBS check Working requirements: Part-time, permanent role (15 hours per week) 25 days annual leave (pro rata) statutory bank holidays (pro rata) three additional days at Christmas three retreat days across the year (one per term) Attend Gas Street Church Closing date 30 May 2025 Interview date 4 June 2025
