Key Responsibilities

* Support the qualified staff in the running of the ward and provide direct care to patients.
* Ensure patient safety is maintained at all times and fulfil the role of a Healthcare Assistant using the applicable Competency Tool.
* Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, moving and handling, mobilising, making beds, serving meals and feeding patients.
* Adhere to patients’ individualised care plans as prescribed by qualified staff and other multi‑professional team members (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, doctors, etc).
* Assist all disciplines involved in the rehabilitation/care of the patient on the ward, both initial assessments and ongoing rehabilitation/care plans.
* Once assessed as competent, perform simple wound care, ECG recording, blood sugar monitoring, stoma care, catheter care, venepuncture and other clinical responsibilities as delegated by qualified nursing staff.
* Ensure correct use of equipment.


Must Haves

1. Demonstrable experience of delivering personal care and a range of related procedures, including non‑routine tasks, using safe evidence‑based techniques and maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
2. Care Certificate, an equivalent qualification or equivalent experience of delivering compassionate, safe and high‑quality care.
3. Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across a variety of roles and seniorities, and with patients who may have barriers to understanding or engagement.
4. Proficient IT skills; able to input, save and open information in a variety of systems.
