The Team:
Part of the Tasmanian Health Service, the Statewide Sexual Health Service works collaboratively to deliver quality sexual health care to the Tasmanian population with clinics in Hobart (Clinic 60), Launceston (Clinic 34), and Devonport outreach (Clinic 23).
The Role:
Sexual Health Service Tasmania is a state-wide service with clinics in Hobart, Launceston, and an outreach clinic in Devonport. The service is staffed by doctors, nurses, psychologists, and administrative officers. The Sexual Health Service provides opportunities to enhance sexual health and wellbeing. This position is based at Clinic 34, Launceston, and Clinic 23, Devonport outreach.
Our clinical services involve assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of sexually transmissible infections, sexual functioning, conditions impacting sexuality and gender diversity, care and management of HIV, and treatment and cure of Hepatitis C. We also provide a multidisciplinary transgender service including information, support, and medical guidance.
Our target populations include individuals and groups at risk of STI/HIV transmission, such as:
* Individuals with symptoms suggestive of a sexually transmissible infection
* Men who have sex with men
* HIV-positive individuals
* People who inject drugs
* Aboriginals & Torres Strait Islanders
* Sex workers
Applicants with phlebotomy, sexual health, and/or family planning experience, and holding a Tasmanian Nurse Immuniser qualification, are highly regarded but not essential.
The duties include:
* Providing assessments and screening in an interdisciplinary setting for sexual health and related conditions.
* Working towards advanced clinical nursing expertise in Sexual Health and related areas.
* Providing sexual health education to clients based on best practices.
* Participating in quality improvement and clinical research activities to contribute to evidence-based nursing practices.
* Maintaining professional development through reflective practice, continuous learning, and engagement with colleagues.
* Collaborating with healthcare team members to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
* Practicing in accordance with NMBA codes and guidelines for registered nurses/midwives.
* Involving patients and families/significant others in care planning and implementation.
You will need:
* Minimum four years of Registered Nursing experience and current knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and practices in sexual health, including STI, sexuality, and HIV. Willingness to work towards a relevant tertiary qualification in Sexual Health Nursing.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills, and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Proven experience in phlebotomy, quality improvement, and application of evidence-based practice, including research activities.
