PLANNING MANAGER – ENVIRONMENT
Location: Glasgow

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Manager to join Galliford Try’s Environment Business, working on our Scottish Water Frameworks in our Joint Venture, ESD. This role offers hands-on experience across a variety of projects in the Water Industry — from wastewater treatment to clean water infrastructure.

Based in the Glasgow area, you’ll be part of a team planning and delivering high value Scottish Water projects, with opportunities to travel to multiple sites across the region.

What You Will Be Doing

This role combines project planning responsibilities with the management of the local planning team. The Planning Manager will take ownership of one or more project plans, ensuring the project team delivers according to schedule while addressing any delays or deviations. You will also support the Galliford Try planning function in implementing industry-leading planning processes and procedures.

As the team manager and planning lead, you will mentor and guide junior planners, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. This position reports functionally to the ESD Operations Director and indirectly to the Galliford Try Head of Planning while managing day-to-day activities in alignment with Scottish Water.

1. Develop and maintain detailed project plans across the full project lifecycle.
2. Ensure project plans comprehensively capture scope, resource requirements, and dependencies.
3. Identify risks and opportunities, monitor the critical path, and advise the delivery team on potential changes.
4. Uphold planning standards and ensure compliance with Galliford Try and ESD procedures, including:
5. Implementation of project and activity codes
6. Baseline management
7. Production of programme narratives for client submission
8. Periodic schedule quality and integrity checks

About You

We’re seeking an experienced planner with a relevant industry qualification (Technical Degree or similar) who is motivated to develop juniors and grow their skills within the industry. You’ll bring:

9. Extensive experience in planning within the water industry.
10. Proven track record in managing a medium-sized planning team.
11. Extensive hands-on experience with Primavera P.
12. Strong leadership in collaborative planning processes
13. Schedule development from inception to completion
14. Claims programme development and contractual programme adjustments
15. Communicating complex information effectively to diverse audiences
16. Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
17. A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and team support.
