Job Title: Registered Manager

Responsible To: Responsible Individual / Senior Leadership Team

Responsible For: Full leadership of the children’s home, including Deputy Manager, Team Leaders, Residential Support Workers, and all operational and regulatory matters

Job Summary

The Registered Manager holds overall responsibility for the leadership, management, and development of the children’s home in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. The role is pivotal in creating and sustaining a therapeutic, safe, and emotionally attuned environment where children and young people with complex trauma can recover, grow, and thrive.

This post requires dynamic leadership to ensure the home consistently meets or exceeds the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards, while maintaining alignment with DDP and PACE principles. The Registered Manager must lead the team with integrity, emotional resilience, and a deep commitment to therapeutic care and safeguarding.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead and manage the overall operation of the home, ensuring regulatory compliance and therapeutic excellence.
2. Be registered with Ofsted and uphold all responsibilities associated with the role of Registered Manager.
3. Develop and maintain a trauma-informed, attachment-focused culture in line with DDP and PACE.
4. Oversee all safeguarding and child protection responsibilities, acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
5. Lead, develop, and inspire the staff team through effective supervision, performance management, and training.
6. Ensure care planning is comprehensive, up to date, and responsive to the individual needs of each child.
7. Manage staffing levels, rota planning, and recruitment to ensure continuity of care and staff wellbeing.
8. Oversee incident management, risk assessments, and behavioural strategies in line with company policy.
9. Maintain accurate, professional, and timely records and reports for all areas of the service.
10. Liaise confidently with Ofsted inspectors, local authorities, and external professionals.
11. Monitor and manage the home’s budget and resources, ensuring financial accountability and efficiency.
12. Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on audits, inspections, and team reflection.
13. Ensure the rights, voice, and dignity of each child are central to care and decision-making.
14. Foster strong relationships with families, carers, and professionals to support transitions and care continuity.
15. Represent the home in court proceedings, LAC reviews, and strategic planning meetings as needed.
16. Promote equality, diversity, and cultural sensitivity in all areas of the home’s operation.
17. Deliver and contribute to high-quality staff training, including induction and safeguarding.
18. Maintain the Statement of Purpose and ensure it reflects current practice and objectives.
19. Lead on health and safety, data protection, and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
20. Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call management rota.

* Ensure all care reflects an understanding of early trauma, attachment, and developmental need.
* Support staff to reframe children’s behaviours through the lens of safety, trust, and relational connection.
* Embed a reflective, therapeutic culture that prioritises connection and co-regulation.
* Maintain consistency in boundaries, nurture, and emotional containment across the home.
* Champion child-centred practice that respects each young person’s identity, voice, and autonomy.



Professional Development

1. Maintain registration requirements, including completion of leadership qualifications and CPD.
2. Attend therapeutic, legislative, and managerial training to remain informed and effective.
3. Ensure all staff complete mandatory training and maintain their professional development.
4. Lead reflective team meetings, supervision, and group learning forums.
5. Promote a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continual improvement.
