Environmental Specialist
Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence, and key commercial customers.
We're looking for an
Environmental Specialist
to join our HSE team at Ardeer, reporting to the HSE Manager. This is a key role in maintaining a suitable Environmental Management System and ensuring that all operations at CEUK are undertaken in full compliance with environmental and waste-related legislation and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out all activities in compliance with HSE legislation, company policy, and procedures.
* Report unsafe acts and conditions via the Near Miss system.
* Review, improve, and communicate the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring ISO 14001 compliance.
* Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permit conditions (PPC, abstraction, discharge).
* Deliver presentations on performance indicators, issues, and trends to the Leadership Team at the Environmental Steering Group.
* Define and lead environmental audit programmes to assess compliance and drive improvement.
* Prepare and manage PPC permit variations in line with strategic business development.
* Lead initiatives to reduce utility usage and environmental impact across sites.
* Manage waste movements, ensure compliance with waste regulations, and support waste reduction in line with the waste hierarchy.
* Collate and submit Climate Change Agreement (CCA) data and annual packaging returns.
* Support HSE Manager in integrating environmental, health, and safety issues within the team.
* Provide support to the Emergency Response and Crisis Management Teams, including environmental emergency training.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in Environmental Management or related discipline.
* Lead Auditor ISO 14001 qualification.
* IEMA – Environmental certification.
* NEBOSH certification.
* Proven experience as an Environmental Specialist or Manager.
* Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, certification audits, and compliance.
* Experience managing environmental consents, PPC permits, and working with SEPA.
* Knowledge of ER2014 and COMAH regulations from an environmental perspective.
* Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and problem solving.
* Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
