About the Business Unit
The Energy unit provides services worldwide across sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable, and transmission & distribution. We offer integrated engineering and project management throughout the project lifecycle, supporting the global energy transition.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant to join our team, focusing on environmental assessments of energy projects in the UK, primarily in nuclear, networks, and energy transition sectors. There will also be opportunities to work on international projects across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, including solar, hydro, wind, and thermal technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead UK EIAs for energy projects, including DCO applications.
2. Conduct due diligence for various energy projects.
3. Coordinate specialists’ inputs.
4. Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate environmental considerations during project development.
5. Mentor junior team members and ensure the quality of their work.
6. Manage project workflows and deliverables.
7. Build and maintain client relationships.
8. Manage sub-consultants.
9. Prepare project proposals.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working alongside environmental specialists, social specialists, and engineers.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
* Fluent in English
* Degree and Master’s in an environmental discipline
* Significant experience in UK energy projects (transmission, nuclear, hydrogen, carbon capture, solar, hydro, wind)
* Experience with DCO applications
* Ability to review complex documents and communicate key issues clearly
* Understanding of technical aspects of energy projects
* Willingness and ability to travel
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills
* Experience leading and mentoring junior staff
* Experience preparing proposals for new projects
* Ability to work effectively in teams and motivate others
* Capacity to meet challenging budgets and deadlines
* Membership in a relevant professional institute
Desirable:
* Specialist environmental expertise with broader environmental or social awareness
* Experience with options appraisals and iterative design processes
* Experience with environmental permitting
* Understanding of other major infrastructure projects
* Town planning qualification
