Residential Property Solicitor/ Conveyancer job role
Our client is a firm of solicitors providing legal services to businesses and individuals from its offices in York. The company specialises in commercial property, residential property and life planning (private client) legal work. Our client has been established since 1981 and employs around 30 individuals including solicitors, other legal advisors / fee earners and support staff. In April 2025, our client became an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) one of only a handful of UK Law firms to have done so. An EOT means the firm is now run for the benefit of our staff, who will share financially in the success of the company, whilst ensuring we maintain our high-quality client service.
The job - main duties and responsibilities:
We are looking for someone like-minded, to be an integral part of our residential property team. The job involves:-
* Responsibility for files from opening through to completion, ensuring that all files are maintained in good order and follow regulatory and statutory requirements.
* Proactively dealing with the other side solicitors, mortgage lenders, brokers, clients, Estate agents and local authorities.
* The provision of legal advice and assistance to clients;
* Business development. Developing your own client base whilst supporting the team to develop a strong regional presence, carrying out marketing, networking and other business development activities
* The ability to manage cases at a level of complexity appropriate to your level and experience and giving guidance to others in the team as appropriate;
* Always providing outstanding client care;
* Advising clients with integrity and reporting any concerns to a Director;
* Managing all cases and files to a high standard and in accordance with SRA requirements, the Law Society, CQS Protocols and Guest Walker procedures.

Key qualifications and skills:
* Experience of working in a residential property department doing a variety of work
* Experience of running your own files, with help and support from colleagues
* An understanding of the regional residential property market, its challenges and opportunities;
* Experienced use of IT and case management systems
* Experience of working within a target driven environment;
* Experience of undertaking marketing and business development activity;
* Experience of document drafting and research;
* Experience of building relationships with external stakeholders;
