Senior Cardiac Physiologist - Harefield Hospital

We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Physiologist with advanced clinical expertise in cardiac rhythm management (CRM), including electrophysiology and implantable cardiac devices, to join Harefield Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Harefield Hospital is a specialist centre for heart and lung care and a leading transplant hospital. Our cardiac catheter laboratories run a highly active primary service; the successful candidate will support and contribute to the 24/7 on‑call rota.
This role includes a Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) of £5,275, in addition to the basic salary (non‑pensionable). The RRP is subject to review on 31 March 2026.
Main duties of the job
* Perform a wide range of clinical and technical diagnostic procedures within cardiology.
* Act as a clinical role model, supporting the delivery and management of efficient electrophysiology and cardiac device services at Harefield.
* Serve as a specialist resource in EP and Devices, contributing to the Trust’s reputation as a leading centre for best clinical practice.
* Take a key role in the training, continuing professional development, and overall performance of staff within Cardiac Rhythm Management and the wider Cardiac Physiology Department.
* Support the 24/7 on‑call rota and participate in waiting‑list initiatives, catheter‑lab over‑runs, and private cases.
* Assist with patient care during all cardiac investigations, including monitoring ECG, providing immediate life support where necessary, and communicating with patients and relatives.
* Participate in pacemaker/ICD implantation, catheter laboratory procedures and follow‑up clinics, handling patient transfer and equipment cleaning duties.
* Contribute to policy development, service improvement, budgeting, and procurement within the Department.
* Assist in recruitment and induction of departmental staff, provide training and appraisal, and maintain professional standards in line with regulatory bodies.
* Maintain effective communication within the Trust, liaising with Clinical Engineering, suppliers, and external collaborators, and ensure compliance with MHRA notices.
* Enter data into departmental databases, write reports, and support clinical governance and quality assurance initiatives.
* Instigate and participate in research, writing reports for publication or internal use.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or AHCS Certificate of PTP Equivalence
* AHCS registered or eligible to register
* Immediate Life Support (ILS) minimum
* Specialist qualification within CRM – BHRS, IBHRE or EHRA in EP or Devices or both
* Progressing towards a postgraduate qualification relevant to the Cardiology discipline (PGCert/PGDip/MSc)
* Competency in electrophysiology and complex device roles
* Desire to achieve STP equivalence with AHCS and register as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC
Experience & Knowledge
* Demonstrable experience within a CRM discipline
* Experience of invasive and non‑invasive techniques involved in the assessment and therapy for cardiac disease patients
* Willingness to work on‑call and participate in departmental needs
* At least 2 years NHS experience
* Independent practitioner in EP/Devices, proficient in conventional EP procedures and 3D mapping or in implantation of complex devices
* Proof of teaching and supervisory experience
Skills & Abilities
* Technical analysis of physiological parameters
* Capacity to deputise for senior colleagues
* Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
* Ability to articulate a vision for research and service development within CRM

Salary: £45,953 – £54,254 a year (inclusive of Outer London HCAS)
