About the Autism Specialist Teacher Role:
As an Autism Specialist Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons while creating a structured and predictable learning environment. You will support pupils with Autism by using tailored teaching strategies, sensory-aware approaches, and clear communication methods to promote academic achievement, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities as Autism Specialist Teacher:
Specialist Teaching: Deliver engaging lessons adapted to meet the individual needs of pupils with Autism.
Structured Learning Environment: Maintain clear routines, visual supports, and predictable classroom expectations.
Communication & Interaction Support: Use autism-friendly strategies to develop communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation skills.
Progress Monitoring: Assess and track academic, social, and emotional progress, adapting support where necessary.
Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with support staff, parents, therapists, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure positive outcomes for pupils.To succeed as an Autism Specialist Teacher, you will need:
Proven experience working with pupils with Autism within SEN, specialist, or mainstream educational settings.
Strong understanding of autism-specific teaching strategies and approaches.
Excellent communication, patience, and relationship-building skills.
The ability to create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
A flexible, resilient, and child-centred approach to teaching.
