Communications, Public Engagement and Admin Support Officer
This post is a jointCommunications and Administration role (0.6 WTE)with a fractionalPublic and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)component(0.4 WTE).
If appointed, you will support the smooth delivery of communications, engagement, and administrative tasks across a range of projects within the Secure Data Environment programme. You will help organise and deliver public engagement activities, support communications outputs, and ensure effective coordination of meetings, recruitment processes, and content creation.
This is a delivery and operations-focused role. Strategic design and creative engagement approaches will beretainedby the Communications and Engagement Director. The postholder will play a vital role in ensuring day-to-day delivery, problem-solving, and operational follow-through.
Main duties of the job
Communications and Administrative Support (0.6 WTE)
Managelogisticsand administration for meetings, events, and workshops.
Provide minutes, record actions, and ensuretimelyfollow-up.
Maintain and update communication channels, including social media accounts.
Assistwith the preparation of newsletters, reports, and public-facing content.
Collate and organise feedback from events and activities.
Support the development of routine comms outputs for programmes (e.g., research asset registers, DAC updates, infrastructure communications).
Public Engagement Support (0.4 WTE)
Support the organisation of public and community group meetings (online and in-person).
Help recruit new members of public groups, including advertising, sorting applications, and supporting induction processes.Coordinatelogistics(dates, times, locations, agendas, materials) for engagement activities.
Act as the first point of contact for public members queries.
Ensure activities are inclusive and welcoming to all participants.
Collect and summarise qualitative and quantitative insights from engagement work.

Person Specification
Experience and skills to deliver the role requirements
* General Skills: Strong organisational skills; clear written and verbal communication; ability to work independently under guidance; IT literacy (Word, Excel, Teams/Zoom); attention to detail; proactive and solution-focused; ability to manage multiple tasks.
* Comms Skills: Ability to draft clear, accurate text for reports or summaries; basic experience with social media for professional purposes.
* Public Engagement: Comfortable engaging with members of the public and community groups; ability to support logistics and coordination of meetings. (Note that public facing roles would make for relevant experience even in a difference capacity)
* Administration: Meeting support (minutes, agendas, follow-up); managing logistics; supporting procurement processes.
* Experience with graphic design, animation, or multimedia content creation; experience with newsletters or wider communications campaigns.
* Any specific and relatable communication experience or training
* Experience with databases or Customer Relations and Management systems.
* Any specific and relatable engagement experience or training. Including creative methods and working with all age groups.
* Experience in public engagement, patient involvement, or qualitative feedback collection
* Supporting recruitment of volunteers or public members to focus groups and panels. Ability to mobilise networks to enhance the reach of a campaign or recruitment activity.
