Shift Leader - DC Environment
£58,000 (+£3000 AP allowance after 6 months)
A global facilities services provider are looking for an experienced Shift Leader to oversee engineering operations at a critical data centre site near Chertsey. This is a key leadership role, ideal for a Senior Engineer or existing Shift Leader with a strong background in critical environments.
As Shift Leader, you will be responsible for supervising a team of engineers during your shift, ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with strict compliance standards. You'll act as the technical point of contact on shift, overseeing both planned and reactive works while maintaining uptime and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team of engineers on shift, managing workload, delegating tasks, and providing technical support.
Ensure all maintenance – both electrical and mechanical – is carried out in line with SLAs and industry regulations.
Act as point of escalation for technical issues, liaising with clients and senior management as required.
Take ownership of critical systems including UPS, generators, BMS, CRAC/HVAC systems, and switchgear.
Review and author permits to work, RAMS, and ensure all works meet compliance and H&S standards.
Deliver shift handovers, reporting incidents, outstanding tasks, and system statuses clearly and accurately. Requirements:
Time-served Engineer with City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or higher in Electrical or Mechanical discipline.
Proven experience in a critical environment such as data centres, financial institutions, or healthcare.
Strong knowledge of building services systems, ideally with HV/LV experience (HVAP desirable).
Confident leading a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Strong communicator, able to remain calm under pressure and make decisions independently
