Partner Office looks after PwC UK partners and former partners. Our team of over 60 comprises a group of specialists in the areas of admissions, personal tax and financial planning, finance, coaching and development, annuities, career transition, mobility, benefits, and the legal administration of being a partner. We bring our collective expertise to our partners as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
Due to the nature of our work, our projects often span across our various areas and there are many opportunities to develop in areas outside of your own within the team but also with other parts of the firm (such as Tax, Finance, LoS, Executive Board, Supervisory Board).
We are a dynamic team and we are constantly reviewing the services we provide and how we deliver so that we continue to meet the needs of a modern partnership. Our leadership structure empowers all team members to take responsibility and ownership regardless of grade or time in tenure. YouMatter surveys show that we are one of the most engaged teams in the firm.
About the role
The Partner Office Partner Tax team (18 in total) is looking to recruit an Associate. This is a permanent contract with the opportunity for supported study for the ATT and CTA qualifications once the applicant has proved their suitability.
The team deals with the tax affairs of all partners of the firm, approximately 1,000 in total. Although the majority of the work is compliance based regarding the completion of partners' annual tax returns, there are also ad hoc queries on other tax matters covering capital gains tax as well as income tax, and financial reviews eg. pension relief calculations, EIS deferrals and other elections.
The team also calculates the tax to be reserved from partners' profits and arranges tax payments to HMRC, which involves keeping detailed records of how the reserves are used and providing annual reconciliations.
The successful candidate will need to have excellent attention to detail, be capable of managing their own workload, dealing with a number of deadlines, proficient in numerical formulae in Excel and Google and a good communicator, as the role involves written and verbal communication with partners.
The role is based in the Reading office and is 5 days a week. As a team we work within the Everyday Flexibility framework but would expect the successful candidate to be in the office for the majority of the time to learn and develop their skill set.
Ultimately reporting to one of the Managers of the team, responsibilities will include
* Preparation of partners' tax returns, ensuring tax data inputs are accurate
* Preparing and collating information/materials for review by senior members of the team
* Monitoring own allocation of work including timetables and action lists
* Taking appropriate actions to ensure deadlines are met and suggesting solutions to issues encountered
* Undertaking administrative tasks within our online filing system (AODocs) ensuring Engagement Libraries are maintained in accordance with appropriate filing protocols and all emails and other documents are filed correctly on a timely basis
* Attending team meetings, following up actions where appropriate and supporting assigned team by carrying out ad-hoc administrative duties that may vary on a day to day basis.
This is a great opportunity for an individual to take a different cycle of experience, build new networks and learn the intricacies of partnership and personal tax.
The following skills are required for this role:
* Good numeric and analytical skills
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to be able to respond clearly and professionally to partners' queries whether face to face, by phone or by email
* Excellent IT skills, in particular Excel, Google and Googlesheets/docs
* Demonstrate integrity: strong awareness of the need to maintain confidentiality and awareness of risk
* Ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to change
* Strong team player, able to work effectively with diverse clients
* Proactive, self motivated, taking responsibility for own work
* Be passionate about excellent client service - focus on the experience from the partner's point of view.
