Job role
Investigate irregularities in Central Line Automatic Train Control (ATC) trainborne systems and equipment, identify and rectify failures, determine which items of faulty equipment need to be removed for repair, and carry out planned preventative maintenance and modifications of the ATC systems. Ensure an adequate supply of Central line rolling stock for passenger service by carrying out preventative maintenance and casualty repairs on ATC systems and providing mentorship and support to Train System Maintainers.
Key Accountabilities
* Promote an integrated approach to the maintenance of ATC systems, treating trackside and train-based elements as components of an overall system to improve reliability and availability.
* Contribute to the creation, introduction and use of fault‑finding procedures and help manage the analysis of data to take correct action and make decisions affecting the reliability of ATC equipment before and after repairs. Represent ATC Group at the Fleet Daily Failure Meeting.
* Oversee the definition, introduction, maintenance and use of relevant approvals and safety assurance procedures for hardware/software change associated with ATC improvement/upgrade.
* Ensure complete and accurate records are created and maintained for train-related maintenance first and second line testing activities.
* Identify control system technologies and modifications that will improve efficiency and ensure relevant test equipment is identified for technical development.
* Contribute to the development of the Company Management System.
* Support the ongoing development of Train System Maintainers and cover Engineering Manager duties where necessary.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Electrical, electronic and mechanical skills relevant to an engineering maintenance environment (Essential).
* Relevant engineering experience in rolling stock, aviation, etc. (Essential).
* A self‑starter capable of working on their own initiative (Essential).
* Able to understand maintenance instructions and procedures (Essential).
* Ability to be flexible and supportive to ensure team success (Essential).
* Good record keeping (Essential).
* Ability to work as part of a highly focused team (Essential).
* Able to manage time and work to tight timescales (Essential).
* Ability to communicate effectively (Essential).
Knowledge
* Essential: ONC/HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
* Desirable: Experience with standard software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and relevant industry software.
* Desirable: Membership of a Professional Institution is considered advantageous.
Experience
* Essential: Knowledge of ATO/ATP on modern rolling stock.
* Essential: Minimum 2 years’ experience of fault diagnosis and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems.
* Desirable: All relevant licences deemed necessary for this post, ability to hold or gain I.R.S.E. licences and hold a Safety critical licence.
