Overview
A 12-month full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available with Prof. Philip Edmondson in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester. The role is in the Tritium Science and Technology (TST) research group and focuses on nuclear fusion science and technology, particularly hydrogen isotope permeation testing and characterisation.
The TST group conducts research on tritium behaviour in materials, tritium breeding optimisation through design, and tritium separation technologies, using state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations with UKAEA and other partners. The successful candidate will contribute to the research group and further develop their academic career.
Responsibilities
* Support the UK community through design and testing of deuterium permeation experiments in support of the UKAEA’s LIBRTI project.
* Expand capabilities on the University of Manchester’s Gas-Driven Permeation System (GDPS) and test materials that are candidates for use in future fusion power devices for hydrogen isotope permeation.
* Collaborate with key collaborators and stakeholders; opportunities for visits may be available.
Qualifications
* PhD (or equivalent) in materials science, physics, or a related discipline, with experience in the design and conduct of experiments.
* Some experience with fusion-related research is desirable.
