Overview

Job Title: Trainee Occupational Health Advisor

Location: Home based (Portsmouth area)

Salary: £36,000pa + benefits (rising to £38,000pa after probation)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full time. 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Start date: 12th January 2026

Closing date: 12th September or when the application limit has been met

Interviews: First stage w/c 15th September; final stage w/c 29th September

Intake: This role is part of an intake of 20 nurses.

Role Summary

Optima Health is one of the largest providers of Occupational Health services in the UK. In this role you will be based from home, with travel to client sites within your area to deliver face-to-face clinics when required. With appropriate support and training, you will deliver OH clinics to a range of clients, including:

* Immunisations
* Health surveillance
* Sickness absence and case management
* Telephonic case reviews
* Health and lifestyle advice to improve employee wellbeing

The role includes access to the Optima GROW course and a mentor. After successful completion, we will support Trainees through the Occupational Health Nursing qualification.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Deliver a range of Occupational Health services while maintaining high professional and quality standards in line with best practice
* Provide advice on health management and capability improvements to management, clients, or their representatives
* Conduct health assessments and surveillance related to potential health risks at work and promote wellbeing
* Advise on health issues related to the working environment and relevant legislation
* Provide health education and promote a healthy lifestyle to maximise participation in work and activities
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and support colleagues
* Maintain Registration and CPD to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council standards
* Support evidence-based practice within Clinical Governance; assist with clinical supervision
* Ensure confidentiality and secure storage of occupational health records
* Coordinate rapid access to allied services where appropriate
* Ensure equipment and supplies are maintained and stored properly


Experience, Skills and Knowledge

* Registered Adult Nurse (RGN) or Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) on the relevant parts of the NMC Register
* Post-registration nursing experience in Occupational Health, Practice Nursing, Community Nursing, Functional Assessment, or a similar field
* Registration and CPD maintained per PREP standards set by the NMC
* Full Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
* IT literacy with Microsoft Office
* Ability to travel to different locations within the region
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to manage people-related issues
* Ability to meet deadlines and work under own initiative
* Ability to handle change and communicate effectively with customers
* Good judgement and ability to escalate issues when needed
