GSL Education are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a school in Haywards Heath catering to primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and Speech and Language Difficulties (SLCN)..
About the Role:
This is a child-focused, practical support role where you’ll work closely with a small class group, helping children engage with a broad, structured curriculum. The school prioritises emotional regulation, communication development, and life skills — all underpinned by consistency, patience, and teamwork.
Experience with Makaton, PECS, visual schedules, sensory regulation strategies, or supporting non-verbal pupils will be a strong advantage — but if you're still growing these skills, you’re warmly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs
* Help implement communication tools such as PECS or Makaton, where appropriate
* Use visual timetables, structured routines, and sensory regulation tools
* Encourage social interaction, independence, and learning through guided play
* Collaborate with teachers and therapists to adapt learning activities
* Provide personal care and mobility support where needed (training provided)
Requirements:
* Experience in primary settings or SEN environments is highly desirable
* Knowledge of SEND strategies or experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or speech delays
* Calm, caring, consistent personality with a child-centred approach
* Understanding of safeguarding and willingness to undertake relevant training
* Enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or willingness to apply)
