Here at The ONE Group, we’re working with an ambitious nanophotonics company in Cambridge developing next-generation optical technologies for XR (Extended Reality). Their focus is on pushing the limits of immersive displays and visual comfort through advanced optical systems. Their technology aims to enhance user experience by eliminating common visual discomforts associated with XR devices.
They’re looking for an Optical Engineer to join the team — someone who enjoys working on complex optical designs, hands-on experiments, and seeing ideas move from concept to product.
What you’ll be doing:
* Designing and optimising novel optical components and systems
* Running tabletop experiments to validate your designs
* Collaborating with industry partners, suppliers, and internal R&D teams
* Contributing to IP development, including involvement in patent drafting
What we’re looking for:
* Strong grasp of geometrical and ray optics
* Experience with design tools like Ansys Speos, Lumerical, or Zemax
* Practical lab experience setting up optical experiments
* Experience with head-mounted displays (HMDs), head-up displays (HUDs), or free-space optics & AR/VR research
* Masters/PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
