Dunfermline
NHS National Services Scotland
Clinical psychologist
Posted: 16h ago
Offer description

The Fife Psychology Service is a large multi-specialty service, with extensive involvement in training, research and service development. The service has close links with Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee and St. Andrews Universities’ D. Clin. Psych and MSc courses. Professional development, CPD and service-based research activity is well supported.

The learning disability and neurodevelopmental psychology teams cover the lifespan and work into a range of community, inpatient and forensic settings. The post holder will provide leadership to the adult learning disability psychologists who work within our community teams, enhanced support service and inpatient setting. The post holder will primarily carry a clinical caseload in the inpatient service, although may also at times carry a clinical role across Fife. The wider learning disability team includes clinical psychology, psychiatry, nursing and a range of other AHPs. Clinical psychology staff in learning disability are line managed within the psychology service, but the postholder will work collaboratively with MDT colleagues in inpatients and community services.

The post holder will provide expert psychological assessment and interventions for adults with a wide range of complex psychological problems; specialist advice and supervision to colleagues; and take a lead in service development and evaluation.
The post holder will contribute to the development of the Fife-wide learning disability psychology services, working with consultant clinical psychologist colleagues, mental health colleagues and other stakeholders.

The post holder will also take an active part in the Fife psychology service seeking opportunities for professional development and contributing to that of others.

The post is based at Lynebank Hospital, Dunfermline.

Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Jill Jones, Head of Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Psychology jill.jones@nhs.scot Tel: 01383 565210 for an informal discussion about this post.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre‑employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre‑settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

We offer flexible working and family‑friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long‑term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

* Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
* Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
* Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI‑generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

Please note the salary is pro‑rata for part time hours.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
