Virax Biolabs UK Ltd is an innovative biotechnology company focused on immune-response detection technologies. The company is developing its flagship ViraxImmune™ profiling platform, aimed at supporting the development of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays for chronic and post-infectious conditions, including Long Covid, Lyme disease and ME/CFS. In parallel, Virax Biolabs is expanding ImmuneSelect, a portfolio of products and services supporting immunology and clinical research.
We are recruiting a Manufacturing Scientist to join our team at BioCity Glasgow. In this role, you will be responsible for the production, quality control, and continuous improvement of ELISpot and FluoroSpot kits supporting both our diagnostic platform and ImmuneSelect product portfolio. We are looking for candidates who bring scientific curiosity to a manufacturing context — who understand why a protocol works, not just how to follow it.
The level of appointment will be determined based on experience and interview performance, offering a route in for strong candidates.
Key Responsibilities
* Execute and document kit manufacturing workflows in accordance with approved protocols, batch records, and SOPs, covering plate coating, reagent preparation, and kit assembly.
* Perform antibody conjugation and labelling workflows (biotinylation, fluorophore/enzyme conjugation), including purification and post-conjugation QC (degree of labelling, yield, aggregation).
* Carry out in-process and release QC testing, including functional assay performance assessment, batch-to-batch consistency evaluation, and shelf-life and stability monitoring.
* Identify and investigate manufacturing deviations, support root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and contribute to process improvement and protocol optimisation activities.
* Maintain accurate and compliant manufacturing documentation, including batch records, production logs, and reagent traceability records; manage equipment maintenance schedules and reagent and consumable stock levels.
* Collaborate with R&D, quality, and commercial teams to support technology transfer of new products into manufacturing and alignment with product specifications.
What your background should look like
* Degree in Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline.
* Hands-on experience with cell-based immunoassays or ELISA-based platforms, including plate coating, blocking optimisation, and performance QC.
* Practical experience with antibody-based reagent preparation, characterisation, and/or conjugation workflows.
* Familiarity with assay reproducibility, reagent stability, and batch consistency — understanding what drives variability and how to control it.
* Well-organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a structured environment with rigorous documentation requirements.
* Experience working in a quality-managed or regulated laboratory environment is preferred.
