There is an exciting opportunity within the North London Mental Health Partnership (NLMHP) for a doctor working at Specialty Doctor level to join The Oaks ward in Chase Farm Hospital for a year on a fixed term contract. This is to provide maternity leave cover for the current doctor in post on our older adult acute admission ward. The role is based on The Oaks ward at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The ward cares for older adults (over the age of 65 years of age) with regards to assessment and treatment. This is a 20 bedded ward. Main duties of the job • This is a 12-month Fixed term Contract vacancy due to maternity leave. • This is a Specialty Doctor post created for the Oaks ward in August 2020 alongside the other already established Specialty Doctor post, leading to the ward having 2 substantive Specialty Doctors. • The post is Specialty Doctor on the Oaks ward in Chase Farm Hospital which is a 20 bedded acute inpatient ward for older adults mainly for functional patients, though some may also have organic conditions. • The post holder will support the Consultant Psychiatrist on the ward and work alongside another Specialty Doctor and Psychiatry Core Trainee. • The post holder will provide medical input to the MDT on the ward focusing on both psychiatric and physical health issues. The MDT meets daily to review and discuss patients. Outside the MDT the post holder will be expected to work alongside the other doctors to review patients, complete physical health reviews, complete referrals for investigations and also complete paperwork such as discharge letters. • The Oaks ward has 20 patients from all 3 boroughs covered by the trust. Dr Doukova is the substantive consultant and works full time on the ward. The rest of the team is also full time. On average the ward can have up to 3 admissions per week but this can vary. Close liaison with borough CMHTs is essential in ensuring the active management of the in-patient experience for older people. • The Oaks also receives input from physical health services in the community to support the management to physical health problems. • The Oaks ward provides in-patient psychiatric care to patients living in the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (please see section 2 About BEHMHT for more information about the trust). Patients admitted to the ward may already be under the care of local Community Mental Health Teams for Older People in each of the 3 boroughs or may present via acute care settings with individual Mental Health Liaison Teams (i.e. Barnet General Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital; as well as hospitals outside the BEH catchment area in the wider area of London). Alternatively, patients can be referred by local Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (each of the BEH boroughs has its own team). • As the trust is now working in collaboration with a view to merge with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, patients from Camden and Islington may also be admitted to the Oaks and vice versa.
