Campus & Working Model

Presence of at least 3–4 days a week on the Manchester campus, with one day working from home; may be required to work 5 days a week based on teaching and meeting requirements. This hybrid model is a non‑contractual benefit and could change at any point during employment, and an Arden work location is added to our contracts.

About Our Department

The Centre for Academic Persistence supports students through their first‑year university journey. We are a large, passionate team working across foundations year, CertHE, On Track, Pass First Time and new student orientation programmes.


About the Opportunity

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in any of the following subject areas:

* Psychology
* Criminology
* Law

Lecturers are required to deliver 16 hours of teaching (4 groups), academic support including office hours and tutorials, and facilitate the cover rota on campus.


Responsibilities

* Deliver engaging and dynamic lectures both face‑to‑face and online for blended and distance learning students.
* Lead modules, ensuring consistent quality and development of learning materials and schemes of work.
* Oversee assessment marking, create authentic assessments and provide high‑quality feedback.
* Lead or support the creation of new programmes and refresh existing ones to align with industry trends and employer requirements.
* Collaborate with colleagues to provide academic advice and support to students.
* Drive innovation in teaching methods, student support and assessment.
* Assist with student orientation weeks (online and face‑to‑face on campus).
* Support students with assessments through 1‑to‑1 sessions, group tutorials and scaffolded feedback sessions.
* Provide reminders and track at‑risk students via phone calls, online 1‑to‑1 tutorials and face‑to‑face assessment tutorials.
* Work closely to develop assessment and resit clinics.
* Develop interactive videos, podcasts and activities for the VLE and in‑class activities.


About You

You understand challenges to student engagement in a university setting and have experience teaching Foundation Year/academic skills. You are positive and empathetic, ensuring student engagement and positive outcomes. Our Foundation Year includes Business and Social Sciences pathways. Backgrounds in academic skills, assessment support, business, service industry, or social sciences are desired. Interest in AI in education, enterprise or innovation is advantageous.


Essential Skills / Experience

* Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject area.
* Recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level, or commitment to gain this within 12 months.
* Evidence of CPD showing commitment to enhancing teaching capability.
