Overview
Packaging First Line Manager (FLM) - Magor – Location: Magor, South Wales. This role reports to the Packaging Manager and leads the Packaging team to deliver daily and weekly objectives, ensuring KPIs are met while satisfying internal and external customer requirements. The role focuses on maintaining premium service and product quality at optimal cost, following agreed ways of working.

Responsibilities
* Takes ownership for balancing the search for improved ways of working with the sustained implementation of agreed ways of working.
* Ensures effective communication and coordination across a wide geographical department.
* Adheres to packaging and production schedules to meet quality and demand, optimising manpower operation.
* Monitors performance against daily, weekly and monthly KPIs and communicates corrective actions in appropriate meetings.
* Contributes to identifying improvement plans reviewed during daily, weekly and monthly processes.
* Reports relevant KPIs as defined through the MCRS process (e.g., plan attainment, losses, OEE, LEF, productivity, energy, utilities).
* Actively seeks feedback and monitors progress against plans.
* Performs troubleshooting with the maintenance department to drive root cause correction and implements process adjustments when required.
* Participates in departmental meetings as per the MCRS framework.
Development of a strong and cohesive team
* Applies structured target setting and performance management processes.
* Ensures responsibility and accountability are embedded at the lowest level of day-to-day operations.
* Maintains team flexibility to meet current and future business needs.
* Manages and develops people, walks the floor, leads by example, and challenges under-performance.
* Motivates the team to achieve departmental KPIs and high standards of performance.
* Manages topics such as shift handovers, training needs, union relationships, individual performance, coaching, and team motivation.
* Celebrates successes and supports appropriate recognition policies for the site.
* Manages shift rotas and coverage for absences.
* Takes ownership of performance management and disciplinary compliance.
* Tracks time and attendance for shifts.
Environment, Health & Safety and Quality
* Complies with E&S, quality and HACCP standards.
* Addresses safety concerns and incidents within the department; promotes safe working practices.
* Ensures compliance with company and legal obligations and helps create SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
* Takes ownership for adherence to processes (e.g., SLA’s, health and safety performance).
* Ensures team compliance to ES, quality and HACCP standards; maintains 5S in areas of responsibility.
Cost, Budget and Resources
* Shares accountability for maintenance and utility cost performance across the department.
* Maintains reliable consumption data in the system; performs cycle counts and investigates inventory deviations.
* Assists with capital projects as required; ensures cost optimisation across all department areas.
