Service Manager - Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management and development of services within the Women's Health Department, ensuring effective delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care aligned with Trust and national objectives. This includes leading teams, managing performance and service delivery, supporting strategic initiatives and contributing to service improvement and transformation.
The Service Manager will work with minimal supervision, using initiative and judgement to resolve complex issues, lead on pathway redesign and ensure services are delivered efficiently and within budget.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage the service across all Trust sites, ensuring that procedures are effective and efficient, providing an exceptional patient experience in line with national targets. They will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operation of the service to ensure safe, effective and efficient delivery. There is also an expectation they will support with the management of patient flow as required in times of site escalation or increasing divisional pressures.
The post holder is expected to liaise with key personnel across the organisation to effectively manage performance whilst adhering to agreed budget levels and to escalate appropriately where this may be breached. As part of this, you will be expected to undertake regular capacity and demand modelling and engage with cost improvement initiatives to meet annual financial targets.
As a manager you will be expected to lead in the recruitment, retention and training of staff in addition to addressing any performance issues in line with policy. You will be managing an administration team made up of booking team members, validators, medical secretaries and typists across both Chorley and Preston sites which will require cross‑site working.
