The role
Head of Compliance
London / Hybrid (2–3 days per week in the office)
Salary: £80,000 – £125,000 + benefits
A growing international insurance business is seeking an experienced Head of Compliance to lead and develop its UK and European compliance framework.
Operating across broking, wholesale and delegated authority/MGA environments, this is a high-profile leadership role offering significant exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to shape regulatory strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
The successful candidate will act as the primary compliance lead for the UK and European operations, ensuring robust governance, regulatory oversight and a strong culture of compliance across the organisation.
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the ongoing development and enhancement of compliance policies, procedures and frameworks.
- Interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements including FCA regulations, Consumer Duty, SMCR, financial crime controls and conduct obligations.
- Overseeing compliance requirements across UK and European entities, including cross-border regulatory matters.
- Acting as the primary point of contact with regulators and supporting regulatory reviews and audits.
- Managing compliance monitoring activities including file reviews, delegated authority oversight and reporting.
- Leading financial crime compliance activity including sanctions, AML, PEP screening and fraud prevention controls.
- Providing practical compliance advice to underwriting, operations, finance and senior leadership teams.
- Reviewing insurer and client agreements from a regulatory perspective.
- Designing and delivering compliance training programmes across the business.
- Overseeing GDPR and data protection compliance.
- Producing compliance reporting and management information for senior stakeholders.

About You
We're interested in speaking with compliance professionals who can demonstrate:
- At least 5 years' compliance experience within the insurance sector.
- Essential experience within a retail insurance broking environment.
- Exposure to MGA, delegated authority or coverholder businesses would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of FCA regulation, Consumer Duty, SMCR and financial crime requirements.
- Knowledge of European insurance regulatory frameworks would be beneficial.
- Cert CII or equivalent professional qualifications.
- The ability to operate both strategically and hands-on within a growing business.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Location
The role is based in London, with a hybrid working pattern of 2–3 days per week in the office. Occasional travel to regional UK offices will be required.
