Cloud Operations Manager

The Cloud Operations DevOps teams are responsible and accountable for Sage’s online product portfolio, ensuring our products and services are constantly available for our customers worldwide. The Cloud Operations Manager position is fully accountable for ensuring our products provide an outstanding customer experience by keeping them available, secure, and performant. These products operate globally across Sage’s organization, and the Cloud Operations team is distributed across global locations. This role requires leading a team of Live Service Specialists and being a fully-fledged member of the Cloud Operations Senior Management Team.
This is a people‑lead role that may also serve as a technical lead. The Cloud Operations Manager leads a team of Cloud Ops Specialists, actively participates in the Cloud Ops senior management team, and collaborates with product management leadership. A key task is to provide direction and input into the strategy to deliver a world‑class online service. The manager will be accountable for critical online services, deliver best value to Sage, and ensure optimum service availability and security.
All our online services operate in the cloud; management, cloud, and DevOps experience are required. The Cloud Operations Manager must design and deploy services that are best‑in‑class and future‑proof against the changing technical landscape. The manager works closely with product delivery teams, influencing design, deployment, administration, monitoring, and continual improvement, in collaboration with security and architecture experts. Innovation, automation, and a DevOps mindset are critical.
* Lead a highly skilled Cloud Operations team across multiple locations with a DevOps mindset to deliver exceptional targets for customer satisfaction, availability, performance, information security, employee satisfaction, and stakeholder satisfaction.
* Fully accountable for ensuring products provide outstanding customer experience, remaining available, secure, and performant.
* Actively participate in the Cloud Ops Senior Management Team.
* Design and deploy services to be best‑in‑class and future‑proof; deliver service plans to achieve ISO standards and maintain documented processes.
* Work closely with product delivery teams, influencing approach and design by deploying, administering, monitoring, and improving services.
* Responsible for budgets, cost savings, and cross‑charging.
* Drive innovation and automation throughout the team.
* Engage with commercial stakeholders and senior leadership across the business.
* Lead Sage’s response to high‑pressure major incident scenarios, balancing technical resolution and stakeholder communication.
* Prioritize, design, and implement solutions to simplify customer experience, mitigate risk, improve usability, and impact Sage’s goals.
* Report on team performance, mission‑related objectives, and goals.
* Collaborate with architecture and security teams to set technical standards and strategic direction.
* Understand all services from a customer and commercial perspective, building relationships with key stakeholders.

* Proven experience working with commercial and product teams.
* Experience in a DevOps environment, leading by example to influence peers and stakeholders.

* Experience with ITIL processes: change control, incident management, etc.
* Strong technical background.
* Experience with large‑scale global products, services, and security.
* Broad experience in topics related to Operations responsibilities.
* Decision‑making, conflict resolution, and prioritization skills.
* Ability to analyze, assess, and make informed technical decisions quickly.
* Knowledge of working with budgets, cost savings, and cross‑charging.
* Degree‑level education in a relevant subject or deep expertise in a specific area (preferred but not essential).
* Previous people‑leadership experience.
* Experience in a DevOps environment using Agile methodologies and SDLC functional disciplines.
* Experience with task automation, CI/CD implementation, increasing efficiencies, cost savings, and error reduction in online environments.
* Experience with cloud technologies: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services.
* Experience with web/cloud technologies: HTML, CSS, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, .NET, Salesforce Force.com platform, etc.
* Knowledge of Linux or Windows Server operating systems, preferably in an online, customer‑facing environment.
* Knowledge of database design, replication, and administration (MySQL, MSSQL, NoSQL).
